There are 3 types of main attacks that you can perform in the battle. They are the EX attack, Musou attack and the Charge attack. As you have already known, in Dynasty Warriors 7, you can equip any weapon you want on your character, let’s say I’m using Zhao Yun, his preferable weapon is a spear, so I can change his 1st and 2nd weapon to another category, let’s say Flying swords and Flying swords (same one) – it’s possible, but you can only do with the normal combat and charge attacks, but not EX attack because Zhao Yun can only perform the EX attack in “Spear” weapon category only. So i will explain about the EX attack first.(although i had ever explain it).
-EX ATTACK!-
These are attacks that you can perform by equipping a weapon that your character is proficient with (for example, Zhao Yun with Spear, Xiahou Dun with Sword) – They’re denoted by an “EX” mark). The controls will vary depending on your character, in which means, they are all unique. For example, Xiahou Dun is using a sword, Sima Zhao is using a sword, although the attack wise might be similar but Sima Zhao will have his own unique EX attack with the body surfing (only he can use that since it’s unique) – you can do that by pressing S->S->T->T. So every character has their own EX attack but with different controls, some are S->T->T (Sima Shi for example), T->T (Zhong Hui for example) and S->S->S->S->S->T->T (Deng Ai for example).
-MUSOU ATTACK!-
This is a special attack for each character. You can use it when you have your Musou Gauge charged fully (minimum 1 unit full). Everytime you use the Musou Attack, it consumes 1 unit of your Musou Gauge. If you’re playing with your friend (2 players) offline split screen co-op or online co-op. You can also perform the Musou Attack together if both of your Musou gauges are fully charged (at least 1 unit) and you’re next to each other. Each character has their own Musou Attack, let’s say if I’m using Zhao Yun and I have a fan rather than a spear equipped, my Musou Attack will still be Zhao Yun’s Spear Musou Attack. The Secondary Musou Attack, you can excute it by pressing R1 + Circle (O) button in the ground for some characters, for some characters, they have Air Musou as the Secondary Musou Attack, for that, press (X) button to jump and (O) button in mid-air.
-CHARGE ATTACKS!-
Everything that ends with Triangle button is your Charge Attack or we call it “Strong Attack” – I always use it for crowd clearing. Although EX Attack is so much powerful than the Charge Attack but considering if you’re using the weapon that your character is not proficient with (without an EX attack) so Charge Attack is still useful.
